Mark Wilson [that’s me] was born as a child and lived through most of his early years as a developing person. After 18 years he left home to study at the Polytechnic of Wales where he spent a few years messing about with computers and working as a DJ at the Student Union, until he got a batchelor’s degree in Computer Studies (by which time it had become the University of Glamorgan). Then he decided to work for a living, joining ICL’s graduate training programme and performing a number of roles until, after 5 and a half years, he reached the position of Senior Consultant, specialising in Microsoft Windows NT and other BackOffice products. He then moved to Capita (and hated it); contracted for Gordon and Gotch (Australia’s largest independent magazine distributor); and worked in-house designing and project managing a Europe-wide infrastructure refresh for Polo Ralph Lauren; before joining Conchango, a consultancy which specialises in delivering technology-driven business solutions that incorporate the latest methodologies and technologies. Mark worked with Conchango, first as a client and then as a consultant, for about 3 and a half years in total but in 2005, he was persuaded to return to ICL - now known as Fujitsu Services - in order to create technical solutions for this leading IT services company’s clients.
[Right. That’s enough of writing in the third person].
Basically, since 1994, I’ve been designing and implementing IT infrastructure solutions, operating both in-house and as a consultant, with my main focus areas being Microsoft Exchange Server, Active Directory and the Windows platform in general, although recent assignments have focused on server virtualisation using both Microsoft and VMware products.
Most of my time outside work is spent with family and friends, but I also enjoy photography and just “messing around with technology”. In May 2004, together with a group of friends, I climbed the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales (Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon) in a little over 36 hours to raise money for Children with Leukaemia. I also have a motorcycle that is slowly turning to rust and a football table that needs to be played more often!
Originally hailing from Northampton, and having lived in Church Village and Trefforest (both of which are near Pontypridd), Manchester, Stoke Gifford (near Bristol), Langley, Milton Keynes and Kirribilli (North Sydney), I’ve now settled down in a quiet market town in south-east England with my wife and two sons. I usually use at least three devices at once and have no furry pets, but am fond of my various computers and gadgets.
