{"id":1729,"date":"2010-03-23T23:05:52","date_gmt":"2010-03-23T23:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1729"},"modified":"2010-06-17T12:56:53","modified_gmt":"2010-06-17T12:56:53","slug":"march-is-prostate-cancer-awareness-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2010\/03\/march-is-prostate-cancer-awareness-month.htm","title":{"rendered":"March is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hiddencancer.org.uk\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alternate\" title=\"TPCC logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/images\/tpcc.gif?w=700&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The Prostate Cancer Charity\" \/><\/a>Sometimes, on the occasions that I wear a suit, I wear a lapel badge with a little blue man on it.\u00c2\u00a0 It does its job well as people often ask me what it represents &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breastcancercampaign.org\">pink ribbons (in fact, pink in general) are well known in association with the Breast Cancer Campaign<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prostate-cancer.org.uk\/\">The Prostate Cancer Charity<\/a>&#8216;s &#8220;blue man&#8221; logo is less well known.<\/p>\n<p>March 2010 marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.\u00c2\u00a0 Sadly, for my family, May will be the month when we&#8217;re most aware of this illness as it will be the anniversary of my Father&#8217;s death, after a mercifully short but nevertheless agonising battle with multiple secondary cancers when we all thought his prostate cancer was under control.\u00c2\u00a0 But, aside from my personal connections, why do we need to be aware of prostate cancer?\u00c2\u00a0 Well:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.<\/li>\n<li>One man dies every hour in the UK.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8216;Don&#8217;t let prostate cancer hide&#8217; is this year&#8217;s campaign to help get prostate cancer out in the open. It&#8217;s a hidden cancer because not enough people talk about it. We can&#8217;t see the prostate, and many people don&#8217;t even know what it is or what it does.<\/p>\n<p>Prostate cancer awareness month is all about changing that. The more we talk openly about prostate cancer, the more lives can be saved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hiddencancer.org.uk\/\">Find out more at hiddencancer.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(markwilson.it is not affiliated with The Prostate Cancer Charity;
