{"id":2500,"date":"2011-04-12T23:48:27","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T22:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2500"},"modified":"2011-04-12T23:53:19","modified_gmt":"2011-04-12T22:53:19","slug":"is-the-windows-experience-index-really-of-any-value","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/04\/is-the-windows-experience-index-really-of-any-value.htm","title":{"rendered":"Is the Windows Experience Index really of any value?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those who follow me on Twitter (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/markwilsonit\">@markwilsonit<\/a>) may have seen a few comments about the Windows Vista laptop that I&#8217;m currently fixing for a family member, who decided not to &#8220;bother&#8221; me when they bought a new computer, yet still relies on me for help when it doesn&#8217;t work as intended&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The laptop was woefully underpowered, with just 1GB of RAM (but only 768MB available) and an Intel\u00c2\u00a0Celeron 540 CPU running\u00c2\u00a0at 1.87GHz.\u00c2\u00a0 Patching the operating system seemed to improve things slightly (it was running Windows Vista RTM, with no updates successfully applied for over 18 months) but what it really needed was more RAM.
