{"id":2612,"date":"2011-05-20T12:00:42","date_gmt":"2011-05-20T11:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2612"},"modified":"2011-05-18T17:27:11","modified_gmt":"2011-05-18T16:27:11","slug":"a-5-homebrew-kinect-sensor-mount-for-a-flat-screen-tv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/05\/a-5-homebrew-kinect-sensor-mount-for-a-flat-screen-tv.htm","title":{"rendered":"A \u00c2\u00a35 homebrew Kinect sensor mount for a flat-screen TV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few months ago (yes, it&#8217;s taken me that long to get around to posting it &#8211; sorry Stuart), my colleague Stuart Whatmore sent me some information he thought might make a good blog post.\u00c2\u00a0 Like me, he purchased a Microsoft Kinect sensor &#8211; but he had issues with it operating at a low level (i.e. below his television).<\/p>\n<p>I have an &#8220;old-skool&#8221; CRT TV (I still reckon that my 13-year-old Trinitron will outlast most LCD panels I could buy today), so my Kinect sensor sits happily on the top of the telly, but Stuart has a handy tip for those who would like to mount theirs on a newer TV.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, there was no official bracket available in the UK (I looked this week and <a onmouseover=\"self.status='http:\/\/www.play.com\/Games\/Xbox360\/0-\/Search.html?searchtype=X360&amp;searchsource=0&amp;searchstring=kinect+mount'; return true;\" onmouseout=\"self.status=''; return true;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=1418&amp;awinaffid=87738&amp;clickref=&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.play.com%2FGames%2FXbox360%2F0-%2FSearch.html%3Fsearchtype%3DX360%26searchsource%3D0%26searchstring%3Dkinect%2Bmount\" target=\"_new\">Play.com lists a variety of options<\/a> but they don&#8217;t come cheap\u00c2\u00a0&#8211; the <a onmouseover=\"self.status='http:\/\/www.play.com\/Games\/Xbox360\/4-\/16222375\/-\/Product.html'; return true;\" onmouseout=\"self.status=''; return true;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.awin1.com\/cread.php?awinmid=1418&amp;awinaffid=87738&amp;clickref=&amp;p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.play.com%2FGames%2FXbox360%2F4-%2F16222375%2F-%2FProduct.html\" target=\"_new\">official TV mount kit<\/a> is \u00c2\u00a336.99) but Stuart&#8217;s solution uses an upturned bookend from Staples (which cost around \u00c2\u00a35), a bolt attached to the wall-mounting bracket, and some sticky pads (two under the bracket and two under the Kinect sensor).<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"inline\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/images\/stuart-whatmore-kinect-bracket.jpg?w=480&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Stuart Whatmore's Kinect bracket\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Stuart notes that &#8220;The bolt on the picture needs reducing in size and the only caution is to ensure you do not screw through to the TV screen&#8221;! It sounds like a workable solution to me &#8211; but I take no responsibility for anyone else&#8217;s actions as a result of reading this blog post.\u00c2\u00a0 Personally, I&#8217;m tempted to try the <a onmouseover=\"self.status='http:\/\/www.play.com\/Games\/Xbox360\/4-\/19756866\/-\/Product.html';
