{"id":2996,"date":"2011-09-01T12:00:40","date_gmt":"2011-09-01T11:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2996"},"modified":"2011-10-07T17:48:32","modified_gmt":"2011-10-07T16:48:32","slug":"what-exactly-does-that-lightroom-preset-do","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/09\/what-exactly-does-that-lightroom-preset-do.htm","title":{"rendered":"What exactly does that Lightroom preset do?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago, I was messing around with some presets I\u2019d downloaded from the \u2018net for Adobe Lightroom. \u00a0I quite liked the effect but I wanted to know what they were doing. \u00a0The version of Lightroom that I\u2019m using (2.6) doesn\u2019t let me edit an existing preset so I turned to the \u2018net to find out how to work out what settings were being applied. \u00a0After\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.quora.com\/How-can-I-view-the-settings-applied-by-a-Lightroom-preset\">asking my question on Quora<\/a>\u00a0it was less than 24 hours before\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lightroomers.com\/\">Rob Sylvan<\/a>\u00a0responded and explained it\u2019s as simple as exporting the preset as a .lrtemplate file and viewing it with a text editor.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adobe.com\/products\/xmp\/\">Adobe\u2019s extensible metadata platfrom (.XMP)<\/a>\u00a0files, Lightroom presets do not use XML but the format is pretty easy to follow (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.michaelsweeneyphotography.com\/blog\/2010\/07\/03\/the-making-of-a-lightroom-preset\/\">Mike\u00a0Sweeney has written about Lightroom 3 presets<\/a>\u00a0and they look pretty similar in Lightroom 2.x to me).
