{"id":3375,"date":"2011-12-12T22:54:03","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T22:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3375"},"modified":"2012-09-18T16:06:02","modified_gmt":"2012-09-18T15:06:02","slug":"logging-in-to-lync-2010-with-the-windows-phone-client","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2011\/12\/logging-in-to-lync-2010-with-the-windows-phone-client.htm","title":{"rendered":"Logging in to Lync 2010 with the Windows Phone client"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, Microsoft released the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windowsphone.com\/en-US\/apps\/9ce93e51-5b35-e011-854c-00237de2db9e\">Lync 2010 client for Windows Phone<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/community.office365.com\/en-us\/b\/office_365_technical_blog\/archive\/2011\/12\/12\/lync-mobile-clients.aspx\">clients for Android, iPhone, iPad and Symbian are on their way<\/a>). \u00a0And, as I&#8217;m an Office 365 user and I bought a Windows Phone last week, I decided to take a look.<\/p>\n<p>Installing the app is straightforward enough but I was struggling to log in using the normal credentials that I use for other Office applications (like Outlook Mobile). From looking at the ratings on the app, it seems I&#8217;m not alone &#8211; with plenty of people saying &#8220;it doesn&#8217;t work&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/hh690996.aspx\">Microsoft&#8217;s advice for setting up Lync on Windows Phone is incomplete<\/a>\u00a0but <a href=\"http:\/\/community.office365.com\/en-us\/w\/lync\/ensuring-your-network-works-with-lync-online.aspx\">the\u00a0required\u00a0DNS settings are documented in the Office 365 community wiki<\/a>. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bibble-it.com\/2011\/12\/12\/office-365-basic-plans-quick-config-for-lync-mobile\">missing piece of the puzzle came from Ben Lee<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; it&#8217;s necessary to specify a username (in the format <code>user@domain.onmicrosoft.com<\/code>) and an External\u00a0Discovery\u00a0URL of\u00a0<code>https:\/\/meet.lync.com\/Autodiscover\/autodiscoverservice.svc\/Root<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p>Once those additional settings were configured, Lync jumped into life!<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bibble-it.com\/2011\/12\/12\/office-365-basic-plans-quick-config-for-lync-mobile\">For full client configuration details, with screenshots, check out Ben&#8217;s post<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>[Update 21 December 2011: It seems this also works with the iOS Lync client, except that also seems to need an Internal Discovery URL before it will allow sign-in (I used the same URL for both internal and external)]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier today, Microsoft released the Lync 2010 client for Windows Phone (clients for Android, iPhone, iPad and Symbian are on their way). \u00a0And, as I&#8217;m an Office 365 user and I bought a Windows Phone last week, I decided to take a look.
