Anybody who has attempted any form of application packaging will know that it is something of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.answers.com\/black%20art\/\">black art<\/a> and whilst many applications install with standard <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/resources\/documentation\/windows\/xp\/all\/proddocs\/en-us\/msiexec.mspx\">InstallShield\/MSIExec command line switches<\/a>, quite a few do not.  So far, with my limited set of applications, I haven&#8217;t had to resort to using the <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/library\/en-us\/script56\/html\/wsmthsendkeys.asp\">Windows Scripting Host SendKeys method<\/a> but I&#8217;m sure its just a matter of time.<\/p>\n<p>The developers of <a href=\"http:\/\/unattended.sourceforge.net\/\">Unattended, a Windows deployment system<\/a> have written an excellent <a href=\"http:\/\/unattended.sourceforge.net\/installers.php\">summary of performing unattended\/silent installations using the many popular application installers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other references that have been useful are the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appdeploy.com\/packages\/index.asp\">AppDeploy.com Package Knowledge Base<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msfn.org\/board\/index.php?showtopic=12657\">Microsoft Software Forum Network (MSFN) application switches forum<\/a> (although that can take some time to navigate to find the latest information for a given application).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of the ongoing development of my unattended Windows XP build, I need to install core applications without any user intervention.
