Then, last weekend, I bought a new one. \u00a0Well, actually I bought the outgoing model at a knock-down price, thanks to a tip-off from Dom Allen (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ca95014\">@ca95014<\/a>). \u00a0A 2.3GHz Core i7 late-2012\u00a0model\u00a0should happily replace my aging MacBook and, <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT4432\">unlike the late-2014 model<\/a>\u00a0that Apple recently announced,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT5475\">it has upgradable RAM (up to 16GB)<\/a> rather than <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT6496\">memory integrated on the main logic board<\/a> (I believe the term is planned obsolescence and I find it deeply cynical&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2008\/02\/top-quality-service-from-crucial-memory-and-a-new-mac-memory-advisor-tool.htm\">As usual, I bought my memory from Crucial<\/a>\u00a0but, whilst I was waiting for it to arrive, I introduced my eldest son to the Apple unboxing experience&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>This evening, I introduced my 10yo son to the concept of an Apple unboxing experience <a href=\"http:\/\/t.co\/MYW9GKR5VI\">pic.twitter.com\/MYW9GKR5VI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Mark Wilson (@markwilsonit) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/markwilsonit\/status\/530083703591288832\">November 5, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The memory turned up a day or so later and now I&#8217;m in the process of\u00a0transferring all of my\u00a0images and photo-editing software to the new Mac&#8230; I&#8217;m sure there will be\u00a0more posts to follow on that experience.<\/p>\n<p>With some more hard disk space and a faster Mac, maybe I&#8217;ll start taking more pictures (lost my &#8220;photo mojo&#8221; of late, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mark-wilson\/sets\/72157648970363835\/\">although I did grab a few shots when I went to watch the Revolution Series track cycling a couple of weeks ago<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eight years ago, I was writing blog posts about buying a Mac Mini and upgrading its inner workings.
