Back in the days when\u00a0Nokia phones had monochrome screens and batteries lasted for days, a colleague explained to me how to include a p<\/code> in a number to make the phone pause before dialling the next few digits – for example when entering a PIN for voicemail (I think w<\/code> also worked for a wait). More recently, another colleague was asking me how to do this with our CUCILync softphones when dialling into a conference call (as described for Microsoft Lync<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Well, it seems the modern equivalent of a p<\/code> for a soft pause is\u00a0inserting a comma (at least it is on a Lumia<\/a>,\u00a0on an iPhone<\/a>\u00a0and on Android<\/a>) and a semi-colon is a hard pause\/wait (on an iPhone<\/a>). Unfortunately the CUCILync client we use strips out ,<\/code> and ;<\/code> (and, even worse, it replaces p<\/code> with 7<\/code>).
