{"id":5735,"date":"2015-07-17T12:00:02","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T11:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/?p=5735"},"modified":"2015-07-13T23:08:41","modified_gmt":"2015-07-13T22:08:41","slug":"short-takes-reading-azure-ad-tenant-ids-in-powershell-and-a-script-to-retrieve-basic-tenant-details","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2015\/07\/short-takes-reading-azure-ad-tenant-ids-in-powershell-and-a-script-to-retrieve-basic-tenant-details.htm","title":{"rendered":"Short takes: PowerShell to examine Azure AD tenants; check which Office 365 datacentre you&#8217;re using"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More snippets from my ever-growing browser full of tabs&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>PowerShell to get your Azure Active Directory tenant ID<\/h3>\n<p>Whilst researching Office 365 tenant names and their significance, I stumbled across <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/heyscriptingguy\/archive\/2013\/12\/31\/get-windows-azure-active-directory-tenant-id-in-windows-powershell.aspx\">some potentially useful PowerShell to read your Azure Active Directory tenant ID<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><code>Get-AzureAccount<\/code><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure how to map that tenant ID\u00a0(or even the subscription ID, which doesn&#8217;t seem to relate to any of my Office 365 subscriptions)\u00a0to something meaningful&#8230; but it might be useful one day&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>Script to retrieve basic Office 365 tenant details<\/h3>\n<p>I also found <a href=\"https:\/\/gallery.technet.microsoft.com\/office\/Office-365-Tenant-Details-c1205042\">a script on the Microsoft TechNet Gallery<\/a> to retrieve basic details for an Office 365 tenant (using <code>Get-MsolDomain<\/code>, <code>Get-MSolAccountSku<\/code> and <code>Get-MSRole<\/code>).<\/p>\n<h3>Check which datacentre you&#8217;re connected to in Exchange Online<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/onthewire\/archive\/2014\/06\/27\/dns-geolocation-for-office-365-connecting-you-to-your-nearest-datacenter.aspx\">Office 365 uses some smart DNS tricks to point you at the nearest Microsoft datacentre and then route requests across the Microsoft network<\/a>.
