I originally thought that it was just a case of installing the service pack after which the database would be allowed to grow past the 16GB barrier but as <a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/?kbid=912375\">Microsoft knowledge base article 912375<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/technet\/prodtechnol\/exchange\/guides\/E2k3TechRef\/6c4ce7bb-5289-4221-a87c-b9c78ab7c09c.mspx?mfr=true\">database size limit configuration and management<\/a> article in the Microsoft Exchange Server TechCenter describe, the limit actually needs to be configured manually.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/techrepublic.com.com\/5100-1035_11-6063252.html\">Scott Lowe&#8217;s article at TechRepublic<\/a> details the necessary configuration as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start the registry editor and browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\MSExchangeIS\\<em>servername<\/em>\\<em>storeguid<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Create a new DWORD value named <code>Database Size Limit in GB<\/code> and set it to a size between <code>1<\/code> and <code>75<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This configuration method can be used with Exchange Server 2003 standard edition to configure (on a per-store basis) any value between 1GB and 75GB and for enterprise edition (which has no limit by default) to enforce a limit of up to 8000GB if required; however if the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.msexchange.org\/tutorials\/Recovering-Failed-Exchange-2003-Member-Server-Using-Disaster-Recovery-Switch.html\">Exchange server is recovered using the <code>\/disasterrecovery<\/code> switch<\/a>, the registry keys will need to be recreated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the enhancements provided in Exchange Server 2003 service pack 2 (SP2) is the increase of the maximum database size for Exchange Server 2003 standard edition from 16GB to 75GB.
