Believe it or not, there isn&#8217;t one built into the product (it disappeared with BPOS) but you can do some interesting things with DLP classification rules and policies.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to publish the exact steps here but I can&#8217;t, for commercial reasons. What I can do though is signpost some useful resources:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jedi Hammond has a useful post on <a href=\"https:\/\/exchangemaster.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/15\/creating-custom-dlp-classification-rules-and-policy\/\">Creating Custom DLP Classification Rules and Policy<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/library\/jj619284.aspx\">XML you need for the Custom DLP policy template<\/a> can be found in <a href=\"https:\/\/technet.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/jj674704(v=exchg.150).aspx\">the Microsoft TechNet advice for developing sensitive information rule packages<\/a>. It&#8217;s a bit difficult to follow in places and\u00a0a couple more posts that might help include <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/govcloud\/archive\/2014\/04\/15\/dlp-creating-custom-rules.aspx\">this\u00a0blog post\u00a0from Jorge R Diaz<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/social.msdn.microsoft.com\/Forums\/exchange\/en-US\/91373305-6f90-42f7-a1a9-3328a397d4dc\/having-trouble-creating-a-custom-classification-rule-for-dlp\">this forum question from John Mello<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;ll need to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidgenerator.com\/online-guid-generator.aspx\">generate some GUIDs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/jamiew\/1112488\">Jamie Wilkinson has dug out a list of bad words that Google uses<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve created a policy you can apply it in PowerShell with:<\/p>\n<p><code>New-ClassificationRuleCollection \u2013FileData ([Byte[]]$(Get-Content -path ProfanityPolicy.xml -Encoding byte -ReadCount 0))<\/code><\/p>\n<p>If you need to update it then the cmdlet is <code>Set-ClassificationRuleCollection<\/code> and if you want to take it out again, <code>Remove-ClassificationRuleCollection<\/code> will do the trick.<\/p>\n<p>With the classification in place, you can create rules that use the policy. In my case, one to block emails containing sensitive content (i.e. a list of pre-defined words) and send an incident report to a defined mailbox.<\/p>\n<p>Even though I was working with Exchange Online (v15), the same process will work for Exchange Server 2013 and, presumably 2016 when it comes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, one gotcha I found (well, it was a user error really):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I thought my rule wasn&#8217;t working. When I later logged into the shared mailbox that blocked messages were copied to, I found copies of the messages I&#8217;d been sending for quite a while. My confusion was because I&#8217;d been testing with Policy Tips (which seemed a bit hit and miss in OWA) and that doesn&#8217;t actually block the message (doh!).
