I&#8217;d been meaning to write that post for a while&#8230; and I&#8217;m glad I finally got around to it because John Buston (a former colleague from my days at Fujitsu) pointed me at <a href=\"http:\/\/community.skype.com\/t5\/Windows-archive\/Account-question\/m-p\/1380006\/highlight\/true#M224029\">some advice in the Skype Community that proved to be very useful indeed<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The Skype client (which I still had access to on one of my PCs) uses <a href=\"http:\/\/community.skype.com\/t5\/Windows-archive\/Where-do-I-find-the-main-db-File\/m-p\/3465407\/highlight\/true#M233185\">an SQL\u00a0database called main.db, found in %appdata%\\Skype<\/a>. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/sqlitebrowser.org\/\">SQLite browser<\/a>\u00a0can be used to view the contents of this database and locate the\u00a0registration_timestamp in the\u00a0Accounts table.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/images\/sqlite-skype-registration-timestamp.png?resize=623%2C397&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Registration timestamp inside the Skype client database (main.db)\" width=\"623\" height=\"397\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Take the number from the registration timestamp, multiply it by 60 and you&#8217;ll have the Unix time (the number of seconds since 1 Jan 1970, UTC) from when you registered for Skype. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onlineconversion.com\/unix_time.htm\">Put that number into a converter (like this one)<\/a>\u00a0and you&#8217;ll have the exact time when you registered for your Skype account.<\/p>\n<p>Armed with that information (and some more that I could guess, like the email address I used to register for Skype; plus some more that I knew, like\u00a0my personal details and some names from my Skype contact list) and I was finally able to get my account unlocked.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks again John!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a post about trying to get my Skype account unlocked and the arcane questions I was being asked by Skype Customer Support.
