Whilst installing the\u00a0Microsoft .NET Core SDK on my MacBook earlier last week, I found that the instructions on the Microsoft website<\/a> were not quite complete.<\/p>\n

Microsoft tells us to run a few commands to install OpenSSL:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Install Homebrew<\/a> (it was already on my system)<\/li>\n
  2. Then run:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    brew update<\/code>
    \nbrew install openssl<\/code>
    \nmkdir -p \/usr\/local\/lib<\/code>
    \nln -s \/usr\/local\/opt\/openssl\/lib\/libcrypto.1.0.0.dylib \/usr\/local\/lib\/<\/code>
    \nln -s \/usr\/local\/opt\/openssl\/lib\/libssl.1.0.0.dylib \/usr\/local\/lib\/<\/code><\/p>\n

    After this, you should be able to download and install the .NET Core SDK package<\/a>\u00a0(version 1.0.4 seems to be the latest version of the SDK at the time of writing, which includes .NET Core 1.0 and 1.1).<\/p>\n

    Then, in theory, running the dotnet command should be all that’s required but, for me, it resulted in an error:<\/p>\n

    -bash: dotnet: command not found<\/em><\/p>\n

    The fix, it seems, is to create another symbolic link:<\/p>\n

    ln -s \/usr\/local\/share\/dotnet\/dotnet \/usr\/local\/bin\/<\/code><\/p>\n

    After that, dotnet<\/code>\u00a0ran as expected.<\/p>\n
