Which makes me a bit of a saddo.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, I&#8217;m just posting items that I wrote in my hotel a couple of nights back&#8230; and I&#8217;ll soon get back to doing something more wholesome with my weekend. You see, normally I like to stay at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilton.com\/\">Hilton hotels<\/a> because:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In my experience, the rooms are comfortable, with a contemporary d\u00c3\u00a9cor.<\/li>\n<li>The staff deliver great customer service (something that is increasingly rare to find in the UK).<\/li>\n<li>I can get a reliable high-speed Internet connection in my room.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sure, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibahn.com\/\">iBahn<\/a> Internet connection is pretty expensive (\u00c2\u00a315 for 24 hours) but if I&#8217;m working late into the evening for nothing more that the price of a broadband connection, then I figure that the company is getting value for money.  In fact, it&#8217;s not unusual for me to work at the hotel the next morning too, because the connection is faster than the one I use at work!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, last Thursday night, the Internet connection in my room wasn&#8217;t working, so I tried the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btopenzone.com\/\">BT Openzone<\/a> hotspot instead.  After repeatly trying to connect, I eventually got a connection but lost it before I even had the chance to pay.  Eventually, I gave up, figuring that there must be something up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.markwilson.co.uk\/blog\/2007\/06\/configuring-wireless-ethernet-with-red-hat-enterprise-linux-5.htm\">my Wi-Fi stack<\/a>.  Later, I googled &#8220;BT Openzone Linux&#8221; and found that:<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"http:\/\/www.btopenzone.com\/news\/news_2004_09_16.jsp\"><p>&#8220;Some hotspots may not support Linux-based Intel Centrino mobile technology systems&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"citation\">[buried deep within <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btopenzone.com\/news\/news_2004_09_16.jsp\">a BT press release<\/a>]<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thanks (for nothing) BT.  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/802.11\">IEEE 802.11<\/a>b\/g access shouldn&#8217;t care about my choice of operating system!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s Saturday afternoon, the sun is shining, and I&#8217;m in my den, blogging.
