I’ve been reading for a while about Microsoft rolling out Copilot to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions. It\u2019s been hyped as the future of productivity \u2013 but it comes at a price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In my case, the price was set to rise from \u00a379.99 to \u00a3104.99 a year. That\u2019s quite a jump, especially when the main new feature (Microsoft 365 Copilot) is something I already have access to at work. For personal use, I rely on ChatGPT \u2013 I think it gives me better results, at least when I don’t need to connect my AI assistant to corporate data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2013 Copilot can be useful. But I don\u2019t need it at home and<\/em> at work, and I certainly don\u2019t want to pay extra for something I don’t use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the last few months, I\u2019ve seen various posts suggesting a workaround \u2013 downgrading to \u201cClassic\u201d Microsoft 365. This essentially gives you the same subscription you had before all the AI bells and whistles were added, without the price hike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, after a timely nudge from Jamie Thomson<\/a>, I went ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
