I\u2019ve had my Garmin Fenix 6 Pro smartwatch for a few years now. I left my Apple Watch for the Garmin and have never looked back. I find that it works far better for me, as a pure sports watch rather than trying to be everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sure, Garmin Pay wasn\u2019t supported in the UK (it may be now, I haven\u2019t checked). But I always have my phone with me for Apple Pay. I\u2019ve got the apps I need on the watch (like my Parkrun barcode) and the sports tracking is much better than Apple\u2019s \u2013 both in accuracy and variety. I\u2019m sure Apple has improved, but my Garmin has been bomb-proof for years. And the battery life is amazing \u2013 nearly two weeks, though I rarely let it go that long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, a couple of nights ago it decided not to track my sleep. That was odd, and then I noticed it wasn\u2019t recording my heart rate either. So I rebooted the watch. It’s the first rule of IT support \u2013 have you tried turning it off and on again?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever had to do that in all the years I\u2019ve owned it. Something like four years of uptime. Not bad!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One thing that does annoy me is the charge cable. It\u2019s not a standard USB-C (or USB-anything). Instead, it uses a proprietary four-pin connector on one end, and USB-A on the other. Over time, the connector becomes loose and won\u2019t stay attached to the watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trick here is to gently give it a pinch with some needle-nosed pliers, halfway along the long sides. Close the metal back in and the connector holds firm again. Reliable charging resumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
