Add a personal touch to your computer

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a font made up with your own handwriting? Now you can have one - although having seen mine, you can see why I'm better off typing than writing!

Seriously though - how cool is this? It's completely free too!

My friend and colleague, Garry Martin, dropped me an e-mail a few days ago to tell me about YourFonts.com. Basically, you download a template into which you provide an example of each character, then scan it, upload it, and wait for the site to generate a TrueType Font file based on your sample.

It took a few tries to upload and generate my font as the site was featured on LifeHacker but it's worth persevering.

Don't worry, I won't be writing all of my future blog posts in this scrawl!.

There is also an XP Tablet PowerToy (which I used on Window 7, I assume Vista would work as well) called “My Font Tool for Tablet PC” that you can do the same thing with if you have a tablet or other pen input device.

You can download it free here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/tabletpc.mspx

@Chris – that sounds interesting. Sadly I don’t have access to a tablet PC (and I’ve never really got used to using my graphics tablet).
